Orbita Aerospace Technology founder on AI in satellites
Dr Yan Jun, the founder and chairman of Zhuhai Orbita Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd., gave a speech at UIC's Division of Science and Technology (DST) High Table Dinner on 20 May about the support of artificial intelligence (AI) chips for AI processing systems on orbiting satellites.
Dr Yan Jun is the founder and chairman of Zhuhai Orbita Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd., and also the vice-chairman of the 11th committee of Guangdong Province Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, a part-time professor of Harbin Institute of Technology, honorary dean of the School of Big Data of Qingdao University of Science and Technology, and a distinguished professor of Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering. Orbita, led by Dr Yan, has become a leading company in the industry.

In the speech, Dr Yan mainly explained the needs of satellite remote sensing in-orbit processing, the technical challenges faced by the processing system on the orbiting satellite, the artificial intelligence system and the aerospace AI chip, and the AI processing system's platform design on the orbiting satellite.
During the question session, first-year Applied Mathematics student, Wang Daquan, asked Dr Yan if the current technology could transmit information between satellites without passing through a station on the ground. Dr Yan replied by saying that communication between satellites requires power consumption; therefore, the current big data technology cannot support the transmission entirely. However, this has become the direction for many countries.
