St. Regis Hotel general manager on career development at high table
UIC's Division of Business and Management (DBM) held a high-table dinner on 18 May. The General Manager of St. Regis Zhuhai, Mr Alexander Chalk, was the guest speaker and shared his experience and thoughts on learning and work.

Other high table guests were Professor Chen Yanping of South China Normal University, UIC Associate Vice President (Student Development), Prof Stella Cho; Associate Vice President (Internationalization) and Dean of Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof Adrian Bailey; Academic Registrar, Prof Li Jianhui; Dean of Division of Culture and Creativity, Prof Holger Briel; and Dean of Division of Business and Management, Prof Steve Wenbin Liu.

Mr Chalk has more than 20 years of work experience in the global luxury hotel industry. In his speech, Mr Chalk mentioned that it is necessary to accumulate talents early and lay the foundation for future development. Furthermore, he emphasized that work should not only focus on the "what" and "how" but also the "why" and maintain one's core intentions and implement strategic methods.

During the question session, a Financial Management student, Liu Zhixuan, asked about the recruiting process at St. Regis the selection criteria or qualities they value for candidates. Mr Chalk pointed out that he appreciates the personal attributes of candidates.
