Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) aims to develop to the world class Liberal Arts College and cultivate elites for the world. We hope our excellent admitted students could feel the warm from UIC family and the willingness of cultivating excellent talents no matter how their financial conditions are.
As the increase of UIC alumni amount, they have stronger willingness to give back UIC. Four Point Education Cooperation Office (FPECO) Alumni Affairs Section coordinated with UIC Alumni Association to establish a platform for alumni to give back UIC. UIC Hand in Hand Bursary will integrate warm care from alumni and provide support, assistant, and care for financial needy students, helping them complete their studies, chase their dreams, and give back the society. The detail explanations of UIC Hand in Hand Bursary are as follows:
Explanation of Bursary distribution
1) Period of Bursary: Once a year
2) Number of Bursary(s): 1 (upon the total donation amount)
3) Money rewards: RMB 40,000 (upon the total donation amount)
4) Application Time: October
5) Process Time: October and November
6) Bursary Issue Time: the Scholarship Ceremony and the Bursary issuance would be in December
Application Requirement and Selection Process
1) This implementation measures would be conducted under the approval of UIC Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee and respecting the donators’ willingness.
2) UIC Hand in Hand Bursary aims to sponsor the presently enrolled full-time students with financial barriers.
3) UIC Hand in Hand Bursary Application Requirements:
UIC students presently enrolled as full-time students;
Abiding by constitution and law; execute rules for colleague students and school regulations;
Actively participating school recreational and sport activities, social activities, and public benefit activities; showing concern for collective and collective honor;
Year cGPA is above 2.2;
Students with financial difficulties;
Students who are physical and psychological healthy.
4) The identification of family financial difficulties:
Identification Principle: According to the requirementsand standards about how to define the financial difficulties students, FPECO will have a talk with every applicant and confirm the situation that shows in the application forms. UIC scholarship and Financial Aid Committee will provide confirmation.
Identification Requirement:
a) All currently enrolled full time undergraduate students who and their family cannot afford their tuition fees and living expenses in UIC could apply for the identification of students with family financial difficulties. Namely, if the total annual available funds of a student’s family is lower than the sum of tuition fees and living expenses in UIC, he/she could be identified as the student with family financial difficulties.
b) The available funds are calculated by the total family income minus the necessary expenses, emergency expenses and debt caused by emergencies.
c) Students’ basic annual expenses are composed by tuition fees, accommodation fees, meals, books and supplies, and other necessary living expenses. UIC would post the annual expenses reference based on national economic development conditions. Please refer to Appendix 1 for more details.
Identification criteria of students with family financial difficulties.
The Ordinary needy students: means students with normal family financial difficulties. The identification criteria defines that the students whose family total annual available funds could cover more than 50% of the total expenses in UIC, but less than 100%, could be identified as ordinary needy students upon UIC’s approval. The preference will be given to following students:
a) Students from national-level poverty-stricken county;
b) Single parent family with financial difficulties;
c) Family with one or more laid-off employee(s);
d) Family with one or more parent with disability or chronic diseases, with no fixed income;
e) Family with two or more children accepting full time non-compulsory education;
f) Family suffering sudden disaster, and causing a loss of person or property;
g) Family with other similar difficulties.
The extraordinary needy students: means students with particularly family financial difficulties. The identification criteria defines that the students whose family total annual available funds could cover less than 50% of the total expenses in UIC, could be identified as extraordinary needy students upon UIC’s approval. The preference will be given to following students:
a) orphans, with no direct sponsors; disabled students with low family income;
b) both parents disabled, with low family income;
c) rural family with no labor under the age of 60, with low family income;
d) family member with severe diseases and huge medical expenses;
e) Family suffering sudden disaster, and causing a large loss of person or property;
f) Family with other similar difficulties;
5) The organization identifying students with family financial difficulties;
UIC Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee takes general charge of the identification and review tasks of students with family financial difficulties.
FPECO is the application acceptance and the financial condition review department.
6) Students with following situations are forbidden to apply for UIC Hand in Hand Bursary:
students violate of school discipline and disciplined by warning or above;
students with grade of F or class absence;
students with financial difficulties but without frugal living habit.
7) The procedure of identifying students with family financial difficulties:
Applicants submit “Application form of UIC Hand in Hand Bursary Student Family Financial Hardship Investigation” (appendix 2) and “Application form of UIC Hand in Hand Bursary Student Family Financial Difficulty Students Assessment” (appendix 3). Students are required to prove the family financial condition by filling the forms accurately and requesting stamps from government administration department. Previously identified students could only submit “Application form of UIC Hand in Hand Bursary Student Family Financial Difficulty Students Assessment” (appendix 3) if their family financial condition do not have obvious changes.
FPECO Alumni Affairs Section will talk with each of the applicants based on the Identification Criteria to check the details of applicants’ situation and confirm all the violations with Student Affairs Office.
According to actual situation, UIC Alumni Association may review investigation of applicants’ family financial condition.
FPECO Alumni Affairs Section signs the application suggestions and decides the preliminary list.
The preliminary list will be forwarded to UIC Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee for review.
UIC will establish the student information profile for final listed applicants.
8) The obligation of sponsored students
Sponsored students need to participate in work-study activities organized by UIC.
Sponsored students need to actively coordinate with FPECO Alumni Affairs Section for relevant review issues.
Sponsored students need to actively participate in voluntary activities organized by UIC or social associations during vacations.
9) The process of review
FPECO Alumni Affairs Section need to review the qualification of identified students with family financial difficulties regularly, and randomly review the conditions of students by different ways, including mailing, telephone, and field visits. Once any fraud is verified, the qualification will be withdrawn and the sponsored funds will be recovered. If the circumstances are serious, UIC shall carry out serious treatment according to the relevant regulations.
Students are responsible to notice academic divisions by written when obvious changes of family financial condition occur. Academic division needs to report the situation level by level. The appraisal will be adjusted accordingly.
10) FPECO is responsible for supervising, organizing and coordinating the appraisal, supervision, and organization of UIC Hand in Hand Bursary.
The measures shall be interpretive by FPECO Alumni Affairs Section and implementation after approval.
